I am also wondering if these are decent, they looks ok (black case, big 120mm fan at the bottom). Only thing I am really wondering about it is noise and rippling.

How to read the Deskstar model number

HDT721010SLA360 = 1TB, 16MB buffer
H = Hitachi
D = Deskstar
T = Series prefix
72 = 7200 RPM
10 = Full capacity¡ª1TB
10 = Capacity this model, 10 =1TB
(75 = 750GB, 64 = 640GB, 50 = 500GB,
32 = 320GB, 25 = 250GB, 16 = 160GB)
S = Generation code
L = 26.1mm z-height
A3 = Interface, SATA 3Gb/s
6 = 16MB buffer (8 = 8MB buffer)
0 = Reserved

So this a 7200rpm drive with a 16mb cache. Quite a decent drive for the money I have to say.

Just bought one of these yesterday because the Seagates and WDs were out of stock.

Anyway the model number was HDT721010SLA360 and the build date was April 09. This is the Deskstar 7K1000.B according to Hitachi's website here:

I assume this is the 6-cell variant of the vanilla S10 with full 1024 x 600 res? the 6cell S10E has a cut down res.
